Collaborative Apprenticeships

No description available
The Collaborative Apprenticeships project (now complete) aimed to increase the quantity and quality of apprenticeships across the Leeds City Region.

Calderdale College, Luminate Education Group, Shipley College and Wakefield College, Wakefield Council worked in partnership with several local employers (including City of Bradford MDC) to deliver key pilot projects.

These pilot projects tested new, ‘wrap around’ training and services for apprentices and employers that were part-funded by European Social Fund. These courses and packages enhanced the apprenticeship experience and equip apprentices with the right skills to help businesses grow. The programmes included courses such as 'Step Into Health and Social Care' for those who were interested in taking on an apprenticeship, as well as a host of courses in sustainability, mental health, leadership and management for apprentices and managers of apprentices.

The programme came to an end in December 2023 and its impact is currently being measured and assessed. A number of the courses have gained traction and will continue and support employers, apprentices and potential apprentices.

The project offers a wide variety of training opportunities for current apprentices in topics that will develop additional skills and knowledge for apprentices, these free (fully funded) courses include digital skills (including social media, websites, IT security), climate change, mentoring, mental health, customer service, personal resilience and safeguarding.

Collaborative Apprenticeships supported both apprentices and employers including:

  • those who are considering an apprenticeship,
  • those already employed and starting their first apprenticeship,
  • those progressing from an intermediate, advanced, higher or degree level apprenticeship.
  • Employers - large and SMEs
  • Employees within businesses where there are identified skills gaps.
